| Hello and welcome to our web site the home of Clabec Maltese. We have designed our web site to hopefully help you make the right decision in choosing your new family member. We tell people when we direct them here to look around and get a feel of who we are. We have tried very hard to make the site represent us personally. It is designed to help you learn what we are about by explaining a little about ourselves and our program. We also have pictures posted of all but one of our breeding dogs. That way you can see what they look like. We have several links to some very interesting web sites that will help cover what we may not have covered. You will find information concerning some of the health issues that may arise within this magnificent breed on our site. We also have pictures of new puppies available and have a page where we have posted some of our previous puppies to give you an idea of how some of our past puppies have looked. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us either by email at becky@clabecmaltese.com or give us a call 850-255-6011. At Clabec Maltese we are a three generation team that are working hard to produce healthy, happy puppies for show and occasionally pet homes. My name is Becky, and I will be doing most of the talking and helping you with finding the perfect Maltese for you and your family. My mom's name is Clara, I pick on her and call her my silent partner. But in all actuality she does not say much but when she does I had better listen. Last but definitely no least is my daughter Rhonda. She loves these little white dogs as much as myself and mother. And is a very important part of Clabec Maltese. We fell in love with the Maltese Breed around 17 years ago, in the early 90's. Their love for life and devotion towards their owner was something that we had never seen before in an animal. For many years we contemplated whether or not to breed because there is so much that goes into it. All along we were studying and learning everything we could about Maltese and breeding. Then in fall of 2003 I lost my son to a terrible accident. I needed something to be able to cling to and these little white dogs did more for me than anyone could ever imagine. I had met my very first mentor, Judy Crane of BiJu Kennel several years before then and she taught me everything that she knew about genetics and how to produce and raise healthy, well socialized puppies. I knew after Kenny died and about 6 months had passed that it was time to start my program. I wanted and needed to return the wonderful gift that God had given me to someone if not many people that would adopt one of my babies. That is when we bred our first bitch. It was an experience that I will never forget. Judy had entrusted us with her lines and we are very proud to say that we have healthy babies due to her and her knowledge. Now we are on the path of having babies enter the ring that have been bred by us. We were blessed with meeting another wonderful breeder, Sharon Girven of Blue Hill Maltese. She entrusted us with her blood lines that she has been working for over 35 years to prove and establish to be the best. There are no words that can explain the gratitude that we feel towards both of these ladies. We have been blessed by meeting several show breeders since we began. And I want to thank each one of them that have lended us a hand whether in knowledge on rearing and raising puppies or how to grow a show coat. Thank you all for your help. There are no words that can express the gratitude we feel towards all of you. In our program we breed with several goals in mind. Our main goal is to produce puppies within the AKC Standard. There are several things involved when doing this. In the beginning the personality was my main concern, but over the past few years a lot of things have changed. We are now breeding for conformation and everything else that pertains to the Maltese Standard. One of our goals has been and always will be to be able to bring the gift of love and compassion that these little one's have given me into loving families lives. To insure healthy dogs and puppies at Clabec Maltese we have all of our adults checked regularly for health issues such as luxating patella's and heart murmur. We are also in contact with Dr Sharon Center at Corwell University and are having all of our adults tested for Portosystemic Vascular Anomalies (PSVA also known as Liver Shunt) and Micro vascular Dysplasia (MVD), to insure that they are free from the disease. In the process of our dogs being tested, we have high hopes that it will help Dr Center in her research to find a cure for the this dreadful disease. If you would like for us to have the Portosystemic Vascular Anonmalies Bile Acid Test done on your baby before leaving our home we will be more than happy to have it done. You will be responsible for paying for the test. If by chance the test comes back as abnormal you will be refunded your deposit and the cost of test. Most of our puppies will mature within the Maltese Standard which is, weight under 7 lbs, 4-6 lbs preferred, overall quality is to be favored over size. Occasionally we do have puppies that are on the smaller side, being under 4 lbs. But we do not breed down the size of the Maltese. We support DNA testing and profiling. Occasionally we have pet quality puppies available for adoption. They will come with the following: Shots and Wormings appropriate for age, Health Certificate signed and dated by a licenced veterinarian, Two year genetic contract, Limited AKC Registration, Spay/Neuter Contract, Pedigree and Lifetime support for the life or (even longer) of the puppy. Puppies do not leave our nest until they are at least 12 weeks of age. The puppy needs to remain with its mom until he/she is at least that age. This is very important is to help ensure in the right behavior development. Also a lot of times we have mom's that are still letting the puppies nurse until they are 9-10 weeks of age. The American Maltese Association has a Code of Ethics that we encourage you to look over and make sure that the breeder that you are considering is breeding to specifications of the Code of Ethics before purchasing a puppy. We are not member's of the AMA at this time but are in hopes of being one soon. If we do not have a puppy that will suit your family and situation, we will try to help you find a reputable breeder. We require that if you are unable to care for the dog/puppy that he/she is returned to Clabec Maltese. Click here to see one of the many reason's we require that they are returned to us. Thank You for visiting our web site. Again if there is anything that we can do to assist you please feel free to either call us at 850-255-6011 or email at clabecmaltese7@aol.com .
